When hearts, souls and minds come together, regardless of race, language or religion, on not just this special day but everyday, working together as a harmonious community, a multiracial and culturally diverse society such as Singapore is one worth living in. And it is shown through this picture through the smiles on our faces. Yes, we do have our differences, as can be seen by our different clothing [be it our own ethnic costume or not], but we complement each other in a unique way, and appreciate our differences, working together as one community, one people, one nation, one singapore.
Yet are ethnic costumes a true representation of our ethnicity? Considering the fact that our NEAs screamed their lungs sore to get us to put these sweltering hot clothes on, not all of us are enthusiastic about dressing up. Most did not have or did not want to put these clothes on. Still, these 7 people had the spirit, and took on the responsibility of showing our unity, our togetherness,
But wearing ethnic costumes along does not show enthusiasm toward the idea of racial harmony day and racial harmony in general. It is the smile, the feeling, the spirit of togetherness we feel, that assures us that we were right- we do have the unity, the heart, and everything it takes to be a unified, not just class, school, or community, but a nation, and a great one at that.
HAPPY RACIAL HARMONY DAY!
